Water Sports Center
It’s placed at the Dragon Beach in what is known as the Point of the Dragon. Our main spot is a small lagoon inside of Dakhla’s bay that ends at the Dragon Island, big enough for everybody to have fun, learn, try some new tricks and in any case of difficulty, there is a safety boat at your service. The spot has no specific danger zones to be aware of and offers all kinds of conditions for different activities.
Our main spot is divided into several different areas to guarantee safety. Teaching Zone A is exclusively for instructors. Teaching Zone B is open to be used by independent instructors providing being registered at our sports center. The windsurf and kitesurf areas are delimited for everybody to enjoy their sessions in a safe and organized environment. Do not forget the rights of way and ride safe!
Dakhla is known as the wind paradise with over 330 days of wind per year.
Wind normally blows from the north; which means side shore on the Dragon Beach.
Sometimes the wind blows from the northeast and ends up being onshore to the Dragon Beach. This wind gives the spot a completely new perspective offering long rides from the Dragon Island till the end of the lagoon. For those few no wind days there will always be alternative activities.
Every other day, wind, tie & waves forecasts are posted on info-boxes located around the hotel.
RED FLAG
A red flag means that the conditions are not suitable to kitesurf, windsurf, or wingfoil, or can also mean that there has been an accident on the water. When this flag is up, our security boats and staff are not available.
YELLOW FLAG
A yellow flag means that the conditions are not recommended to kitesurf, windsurf, or wingfoil. Be it a weather change or too much/little wind. Our security boat will be available on the water, but each rider will enter at his/her own discretion.
BLUE FLAG
A blue flag means that the conditions are perfect and ideal for pursuing any sport on the water with the security service available.
HOW DOES THE SPORT CENTER WORK?
Sport Center is open all year long offering kitesurf, wingfoil and windsurf lessons, equipment rental, surf shop, repair workshop, excursions and much more. During winter (November to March) the sport center is open from 9am to 6pm. During the rest of the year, the center is open from 9am to 8pm.
It is mandatory for customers arriving in Dakhla Attitude to register at the sport center reception after having checked into the hotel. There is a briefing held daily at 11am in front of the Sport Center encompassing all the details about the spot with useful information about how the sport center functions.
30 minutes before the sport center closes, a horn will be sounded 3 times in order to notify the customers to return the rented equipment to the sport center. For the customers with their own gear, this is to notify them that there will no longer be a security boat on the water.
There are no danger zones on the lagoon except for boat anchors (marked with flags). On low tide, the sand is full of sharp shells. Please be vigilant.
FIRST AID Kits are available at the sport center. Dakhla´s hospital and an ambulance are available in case of a severe accident (Passports must be taken with the customer in this case*)
Kites should NEVER be landed or launched from the concrete platform or the area in front of the sport center. The limit is marked with a row of red buoys and/or flags. Once in the water it is important to respect the other riders. You must know and apply the international rules of RIGHT OF WAY in the water.
The security team is active in the water from 9am to 6 pm (winter) / from 10am to 7pm (rest of the year). Outside of these hours, the boat is available but anchored in the sand and ready to go. Our team works full time with 2 Zodiacs. The Security Team will always give priority to riders and situations that require immediate help. All of them are certified security assistants. Be aware that the security service is NOT to be used as a taxi. Customers should learn to body drag to retrieve their boards.
DAKHLA Sport Center offers different kinds of services for all registered customers to make their stay as pleasant as possible.
AIR COMPRESSOR AREA
Next to the storage area, 2 air compressor guns are available to pump kites. Dakhla Attitude do not take any responsibility of kites exploding because they get over pumped.
BEACH ASSISTANCE
Our beach assistance are on the beach all day long helping to launch and land kites, as well as help transport windsurfs and any other equipment to the spot and back.
KITE STORAGE AREA
All customers with their own gear can use the storage area (one per bungalow) in order to store their equipment. The storage area opens at 9am until 10pm. Video security 24/7*
REPAIR WORKSHOP
We have a complete kite and windsurf repair area that can fix all types of damage. Prices will depend on the size of the damage. Repairs should take less than 24 hours to complete.
WATER TANKS
Each area at the sport center has a big water tank for everybody to use in order to rinse their material with sweet water.
SHOWERS
Fresh showers are located near the center in order to rinse wetsuits and gear. Please be mindful of wasting water in the desert. Remember we are in the desert so don’t waste water.
LOCKERS & CHANGING ROOM
The sport center offers a small storage area for personal belongings with changing rooms. For any valuable items please talk to the person at the front desk of the center.
SURF SHOP
The surf shop houses everything from Kitesurfing gear, to our latest designs of apparel, creams and all the essentiel necessities during your stay.
BEACH BAR
With a breathtaking view on the Dragon Beach, the beach bar is the perfect place to rest, keep an eye on the action, listen to great music, and watch the sunset.
KITE & WINDSURF LESSONS
All of our monitors are IKO or VDWS certified. We use the latest techniques and tools to get all our students up and running in the most friendly, secure and fast way possible.
KITE & WINDSURF RENTAL
We offer the latest kitesurf material from NORTH and windsurf material from Fanatic and NS for rental. Level check is necessary and rental insurance is available in case of any mishap.
